Men's Hockey ends season with win after five goal burst in second

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's hockey team scored a season high eight goals Saturday night as they downed Potsdam by an 8-5 final score in SUNYAC play at Maxcy Arena in Potsdam in the season finale.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's hockey posted a season high eight goals Saturday night as they collected an 8-5 SUNYAC win over host SUNY Potsdam to wrap up the 2022-23 season with a 8-17-0 overall record.
  • After scoring one in the first to knot the game at one, Morrisville exploded for five unanswered tallies in the second and added two more in the third to tame the Bears.
  • Curtis Abbott (Belmont, Ont.) put the Mustangs on the board at the 14:53 mark, evening the score at one after an early Potsdam tally.
  • Trevor Grasby (Holland Landing, Ont.) and Cameron Clark (Daytona Beach, Fla.) were credited with the assists after the initial shots, before Abbott buried the puck five-hole for the evening tally.
  • Potsdam was whistled with a boarding penalty and the Mustangs capitalized early for a power play tally with Trevor Neumann (Burlington, Ont.) collecting the short rebound off the initial rifle from the left side of the zone from Clark just 50 seconds into the frame.
  • Grasby also collected an assist on the Mustang tally.
  • After an evening tally just over a minute later, Morrisville regained the lead with a short range wrister that bounced out in front of the net after Robert Haak (Spencerport, N.Y.) cleared the puck from the defensive zone.
  • Benjamin Lindberg (East Aurora, N.Y.) won the race to the front side of the crease to collect the tally for the Mustangs.
  • Potsdam regained the one-goal advantage with back-to-back tallies before Neumann collected his second of the night.
  • Jestin Somero (New Ipswich, N.H.) fired one on net from between the circles in the offensive zone, before Neumann collected the rebound on the right post for the fourth Mustang score of the contest.
  • Haak was also credited with an assist.
  • Minutes later, the Mustangs went ahead by one with a short-handed breakaway score.
  • Potsdam mishandled the pass and as it bounced out of the offensive zone, Clark broke away down the right side of the ice to the pick for the wrister from the right circle that sailed over the blocker of the Bears netminder at the 11:41 mark for the 5-4 lead.
  • Mateo DiBlasio (Toronto, Ont.) sent the Mustangs into the second intermission with a fifth period goal with seconds to go in the frame, collecting the rebound for the one-timer on the right just outside the crease.
  • Lindberg and James Boisvert (Mansfield, Tex.) were credited with the assists after the initial shots on net.
  • Morrisville didn't let off the gas in the third, netting a game seventh from no. 7, five minutes in as Jonas Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) poked the loose puck into the neutral zone for the two-on-goaltender breakaway, giving the Mustangs a 7-4 advantage.
  • Leas collected the score off an assist from Abbott and Domenic Della Civita (Trenton, Ont.).
  • Morrisville would get their final tally of the contest at the 9:15 mark, an unassisted score from Steven Ford (Dallas, Tex.) after Ford stole the puck on the goal line from the Potsdam defender and backhanded the chip inside the right post for the eighth Mustang goal of the night.
  • Ryan Creenan (Colonia, N.J.) collected 24 stops in the win for the Mustangs.
