WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Senior forward Kennedy Kirkby (Prescott, Ont.) scored three times to net her first collegiate hat trick Tuesday evening, leading the host SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team to a 4-1 defeat of Arcadia University on the Mustangs home ice in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville, who outshot the visitors 40-27, notched two tallies in each the first and third periods of the non-conference outing, with the first score coming at the 12:31 mark of the opening period.
  • Kirkby intercepted the Arcadia attempt to clear the puck from their defensive zone, and after dodging two skaters, placed the wide open wrister over the shoulder of the Knights netminder for the unassisted score.
  • The senior notched her second tally of the night in the closing minute of the period, poking in the chip from Madison Tomkins (Windsor, Ont.) on the crease for the 2-0 lead.
  • Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) was credited with the second assist.
  • After a scoreless second period, Arcadia pulled the contest within one with a goal 2:38 into the third, but that was short-lived as Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, N.Y.) fired the wrister into the back of the net to regain the two-goal lead for the hosts.
  • Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill.) chipped the puck to Leas who one-timed the pass for the tally.
  • Less than a minute later Kirkby completed the hat trick performance putting away the centering pass from Tomkins.
