Morrisville men claim third at Castleton tourney in 6-0 rout of MCLA

CASTLETON, VT – The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team picked up a third place finish at the Castleton University Tournament, dominating the MCLA Trailblazers with a 6-0 defeat Saturday afternoon in Rutland, Vermont.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team wrapped up weekend action with a 6-0 rout of MCLA in the consolation round of the Castleton University Tournament Saturday afternoon, claiming third place in tourney action.
  • Stevie Gerbis (Bradenton, Fla.) was named to the All-Tournament Team following his performance across games Friday and Saturday, collecting four points with a goal and three assists, including three points in the win over MCLA.
  • Morrisville struck twice in the opening period of play, including the first just 4:38 in as they put away one of three power play scores on the day.
  • Trevor Neumann (Burlington, Ont.) collected the first tally of the day off the feed from Trevor Grasby (Holland Landing, Ont.) and Chris Mott (Nesconset, N.Y.).
  • Minutes later, Gerbis added his first point putting the Mustangs ahead 2-0 as he buried the puck off the dish from Andrew Manley (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Matteo DiBlasio (Toronto, Ont.).
  • Curtis Abbott (Belmont, Ont.) netted his first of the season just one minute into the second period to extend the Mustang lead to 3-0.
  • Jacob Black (Fergus, Ont.) and Robert Haak (Spencerport, N.Y.) registered the assists, before Haak added a fourth Morrisville score, the second power play of the day, at 8:54, a one-timer off the feed from Gerbis.
  • Ethan Henry (Buffalo, N.Y.) added his first collegiate goal midway through the third to extend the lead to five, with Logan Robins (Livonia, Mich.) and Neumann recording the assists.
  • Forty seconds later Morrisville notched their third power play goal of the afternoon, the slap from Manley from the blue as Haak and Gerbis found the open sophomore for the score.
  • Morrisville's Ryan Creenan (Colonia, N.J.) recorded the shut out win, turning away 11, as the Mustangs dominated the Trailblazers 43-11 in shots on the day.
  • Black led the efforts in the face-off circle, winning 10-of-11, as Morrisville held the 30-58 advantage on the puck drop.

  • Morrisville will return to the ice next Friday, hosting SUNY Canton at 7 PM in Morrisville.
