Morrisville men allow four unanswered in third in 5-2 loss to Raiders

RUTLAND, Vt. – The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team allowed four unanswered goals in the third period of Friday afternoon's opening round of the Terry Moran Invitational Tournament hosted by Castleton University, falling 5-2 to Rivier University in Rutland.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville held a 2-1 advantage after two periods Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Terry Moran Invitational hosted by Castleton University, but allowed four unanswered tallies in the third as they dropped the 5-2 decision come final whistle.
  • Skating to a scoreless first period, Morrisville collected the first of the afternoon 1:36 into the second on the power play, as Jacob Black (Fergus, Ont.) poked in the cross from Curtis Abbott (Belmont, Ont.) for the score.
  • Stevie Gerbis (Bradenton, Fla.) was also credited with an assist on the play.
  • Rivier evened it up at one at 14:52, but Morrisville quickly regained the lead with a tally from Cameron Clark (Daytona Beach, Fla.) to carry the 2-1 advantage into the third period.
  • Trevor Grasby (Holland Landing, Ont.) assisted Clark's score.
  • Rivier notched the game tying goal at the 5:03 mark of the third, before posting the go ahead tally two minutes later.
  • They pulled ahead by two with a third goal of the period at the 15:18 mark, before putting the game out of reach a mere 41 seconds later for the 5-2 victory.
  • Garrett Boyonoski (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) registered 33 stops in the loss for the Mustangs.
  • Rivier held the 38-21 advantage in shots on the day.
