Morrisville men open SUNYAC slate against #4 Plattsburgh

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team opened the SUNYAC league slate Wednesday evening, falling to no.4 ranked SUNY Plattsburgh by a 5-1 final tally in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team opened the 2023-24 league schedule Wednesday night on their home ice, falling to nationally ranked no. 4 SUNY Plattsburgh by a 5-1 final score in Morrisville.
  • Plattsburgh posted back-to-back tallies midway through the opening period to claim an early 2-0 lead, before adding two more in the second for the four-goal advantage.
  • They added a final score in the third before the Mustangs were able to put one of their own on the board, converting a power play opportunity off the Cardinals turnover.
  • Plattsburgh attempted to clear the puck out of their defensive zone, but the pass was intercepted by Chris Mott (Nesconset, N.Y.) who one-timed the wrister over the pads of the Cardinal netminder for the power play score at 13:02 of the third.
  • Garrett Boyonoski (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) recorded the loss in net, despite a 37 save effort that included 16 stops in the second period of action.
  • Morrisville went 1-for-5 on the power play on the night.
  • The Cardinals had five different players notch tallies in the contest, two that came on power play opportunities.
  • Jacob Hearne earned the win in net with a 17 save effort.
