Men's hockey edged by Cortland, 3-2

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team held a one goal advantage after the opening period, but host Cortland battled back with two in the third to edge the visiting Mustangs 3-2 in SUNYAC action Sunday evening in Cortland.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's hockey was edged by host SUNY Cortland by a 3-2 final in SUNYAC play Sunday evening in Cortland.
  • Morrisville, who held a 1-0 lead after the opening period, collected the first of two tallies on the night at the 19:03 mark off a Khaden Henry (Whitby, Ont.) snipe off the feed from Jacob Black (Fergus, Ont.) to claim the one goal advantage.
  • Cortland tied it up late in the second with their first of the night at 15:58, before taking the lead 3:24 into the third with the go-ahead score.
  • A rebound tally at 18:07 gave the hosts the two-goal advantage, but Morrisville was able to sneak another past the Red Dragons netminder to pull the contest within one with seconds remaining.
  • Stevie Gerbis (Bradenton, Fla.) collected the extra skater score with 17 ticks to go, cleaning up the loose puck on the crease after chips in from Curtis Abbott (Belmont, Ont.) and Trevor Grasby (Holland Landing, Ont.).
  • Cortland won the ensuing faceoff to keep the puck out of possession of the Mustangs offense, securing the win.
  • Garrett Boyonoski (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) recorded 31 stops in the loss in net, appearing for 58:41 before being pulled for the extra man attempt.
