Morrisville rally falls short in 5-3 decision to Fredonia

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team allowed three unanswered tallies in the second and were forced to rally for a comeback attempt in the third, but fell short as visiting Fredonia State took home the 5-3 SUNYAC win Wednesday night in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Fredonia scored three unanswered tallies in the second period, downing host SUNY Morrisville 5-3 in SUNYAC play in Morrisville Wednesday night.
  • Fredonia jumped out to a four goal lead, forcing the Mustangs to rally for a comeback attempt over the final 25 minutes of the contest.
  • Jacob Black (Fergus, Ont.) put Morrisville on the board at the 17:11 mark of the second, one-timing the puck on the power play after the move across the blue from Robert Haak (Spencerport, N.Y.) and Andrew Manley (Whitesboro, N.Y.) who were credited with assists.
  • Morrisville got another to cut the lead to two at the 12:25 mark of the third as the pressure from Chris Mott (Nesconset, N.Y.) on net gave Stevie Gerbis (Bradenton, Fla.) the open look for the one-timer.
  • Fredonia responded minutes later with a rebound tally to regain the three goal advantage.
  • After being whistled for an elbowing penalty, Morrisville packed in the zone and after a chip out of the zone from Benjamin Lindberg (East Aurora, N.Y.), the senior defenseman gathered the loose puck and fired off a shot, before the rebound landed on the stick of Mott who put the short-handed tally into the back of the net with 1:50 to go in the contest.
  • Lindberg was credited with the assist.
  • Morrisville pulled netminder Ryan Creenan (Colonia, N.J.) for the final 1:04 of the contest for the extra skater, but were unable to notch a score as Fredonia earned the win.
  • Garrett Boyonoski (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) recorded 24 stops in net in the loss, appearing for 35:41 of the contest before Creenan releived the senior for the final 23:15.
  • Creenan recorded seven stops.

  • Morrisville returns to the ice Saturday, traveling to Buffalo State for a 7 p.m. league contest.
