Morrisville men open season with loss against LebValley

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team opened the 2023-24 season campaign Saturday afternoon, falling 5-2 to visiting Lebanon Valley College as the Dutchmen posted a three-goal third to capture the win in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's hockey dropped a 5-2 season opener to visiting Lebanon Valley College Saturday afternoon, as the visiting Dutchmen scored three times in the final period to skate to the win.
  • Playing to a scoreless draw after one, Morrisville was the first to strike midway through the second, with senior Chris Mott (Nesconset, N.Y.) rifling the dish from Cameron Clark (Daytona Beach, Fla.) into the back of the net on the power play for the 1-0 lead at the 10:09 mark.
  • Less than two minutes later, Morrisville's Trevor Grasby (Holland Landing, Ont.) added to the lead with his snipe from the center of the zone after receiving the puck from Trevor Neumann (Burlington, Ont.) on the right wing.
  • Lebanon Valley was able to get back into the game with back-to-back tallies on the power play to close out the second period, sending the contest into the intermission knotted at two.
  • In the third, the Dutchmen took a 3-2 lead 36 seconds in before extending their lead to two at 7:41.
  • LebValley added an empty net score late in the contest to secure the win.
  • Ryan Creenan (Colonia, N.J.) recorded 27 saves in net for the Mustangs in the loss.

  • Morrisville returns to the ice Wednesday, hosting #7 ranked SUNY Plattsburgh to open SUNYAC play. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Morrisville.
