Grasby nets two in loss to Fredonia

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore Trevor Grasby (Holland Landing, Ont.) scored twice in Tuesday night's action against visiting Fredonia State, but it wasn't enough as the Mustangs dropped the 4-3 SUNYAC decision to the Blue Devils in Morrisville.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Morrisville 3, Fredonia 4
  • Location: Morrisville Ice Plex, Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 6-12-0, 3-8 SUNYAC; Fredonia 4-12-0, 2-7-0

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville fell in SUNYAC play to 3-8-0 overall Tuesday night as visiting Fredonia scored three in the second period of action to top the host Mustangs by a 4-3 final in Morrisville.
  • Sophomore Trevor Grasby (Holland Landing, Ont.) scored twice in the Mustang efforts, including the first tally of the contest that was the result of a Blue Devil turnover within the Mustangs offensive zone that came midway through the second period.
  • Both teams played to a scoreless opening frame before Grasby put the Mustangs on the board, but it was all Fredonia in the second half of the second as they poured in three tallies to claim a 3-1 lead after two.
  • Morrisville got one back at the 7:59 mark as Jestin Somero (New Ipswich, N.H.) cleaned up the loose puck on the crease for the score.
  • Curtis Abbott (Belmont, Ont.) and Cameron Clark (Daytona Beach, Fla.) were credited with the assists.
  • Fredonia restored the two-goal lead at the 11-minute mark but that was short lived as Grasby posted his second, a deflection after the snipe from the blue from defenseman Benjamin Lindberg (East Aurora, N.Y.).
  • Morrisville pulled netminder Garrett Boyonoski (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) for the extra skater for the final 1:41, after being whistled for a penalty, and kept a persistent presence in the offensive zone, but three straight stops by Fredonia's goaltender kept the Mustangs from netting the equalizer and secured the league win.
  • Boyonoski finished with 25 saves in the loss between the pipes for the Mustangs, who held the 35-29 advantage in shots on the night.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville returns to the ice Saturday, traveling to Buffalo State for a 7 p.m. SUNYAC matchup in Buffalo.
