Morrisville men drop heartbreaker to no. 8 Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville men's hockey battled back from a three-goal deficit to no. 8 USCHO ranked SUNY Geneseo, but suffered the heartbreaking 5-4 loss as a late power play score gave the Knights the SUNYAC win in Geneseo.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville faced a three-goal deficit midway through the opening period of play Friday night on the road in Geneseo, but battled back before suffering a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to the no.8 ranked Knights on the road in SUNYAC action in Geneseo.
  • Geneseo opened with three tallies over the first three minutes of Friday night's contest, before Stevie Gerbis (Bradenton, Fla.) broke up the scoring with the first tally for the Mustangs at 14:21.
  • Jensen Dodge (West Lebanon, N.H.) and James Boisvert (Mansfield, Tex.) were credited with the assists.
  • Geneseo regained the three-goal lead within the first three minutes of the second, but the Mustangs took advantage of the power play and posted two straight, making it a 4-3 game in favor of the Knights after two.
  • Connor Carlile (Southlake, Tex.) sniped home a power play tally off the dish from Cameron Clark (Daytona Beach, Fla.) at the 8:52 mark before a second power play score from Chris Mott (Nesconset, N.Y.) at 15:11 brought the Mustangs within one.
  • Andrew Manley (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Robert Haak (Spencerport, N.Y.) were credited with the assists.
  • Gerbis cleaned up the puck on the crease midway through the third for his second tally of the night, tying the contest at four as Jacob Black (Fergus, Ont.) initiated the scoring play for the assist.
  • Morrisville was whistled for two costly penalties in the minutes that ensued after the equalizer, though, leaving Geneseo with a 5-on-3 power play opportunity.
  • The Knights regained the lead at the 15:14 mark with the wrister over the blocker for the win.
  • Garrett Boyonoski (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) registered the loss, despite a 21 save effort across the final 46 minutes of play.
  • Ryan Creenan (Colonia, N.J.) had two stops in the opening 14 minutes.
