Morrisville men stage late run to claim win over Lions

MIDDLETOWN, PA – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team staged a late 12-4 run over host Penn St. Harrisburg Saturday afternoon, leading to a 78-67 United East win on the road in Middletown.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's basketball used a late 12-4 run to pull away from host Penn St. Harrisburg Saturday afternoon, capturing the 78-67 United East win over the Nittany Lions to improve to 5-3 overall in league action.
  • Sophomore Jordan Coard (Jamaica, N.Y.) led all scorers with 23 points, completing the double-double with 13 rebounds, as Morrisville posted the conference win.
  • Shykell Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) added 19 points in the win, 16 that came in the second half of play, while draining five three-pointers across the contest.
  • Brandon Kulakowski (Brewerton, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring leaderboard with a double-double, collecting 15 points, while snagging 12 off the glass to assist the Mustangs in controlling the boards with a 43-30 advantage.
  • Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) dished out a team high six assists, adding seven rebounds and eight points.
  • Morrisville held the slim 15-12 advantage early on over the hosts before hitting the paint on the ensuing three possessions to open the margin to a nine-point game, leading to a 35-28 halftime lead.
  • Harrisburg was able to cut the deficit to three with 2:46 remaining in the contest, but Morrisville, as it did in the first half, hit Coard inside, who completed a three-point play for the six-point lead.
  • Harrisburg was able to get a layup on the following possession, but as time wound down, Morrisville completed 5-of-6 from the free throw line to hedge the Lions by nine with 32 ticks to go.
  • The hosts were able to get a bucket with 26 seconds showing on the clock, but an offensive board by Kulakowski that followed with a layup regained the nine-point advantage that was capped off with two additional free throws with 11 seconds to go to seal the league win.
  • Morrisville never trailed in the contest, and hit 50% from the floor, while nailing 11-of-14 from the free throw line.
