Morrisville men struggle from floor in loss to Abington

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team could not knock the lid off the rim Friday night as visiting Penn St. Abington collected a 63-52 United East win over the Mustangs in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball had a rough outing Friday night as they struggled from the floor, falling to visiting Penn St. Abington by a 63-52 United East final score in Morrisville.
  • The Mustangs shot a dismal 25.4% across the contest, struggling to find the bottom of the net in the opening half as they got behind early.
  • Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 11 points, adding five steals and two assists to his totals, while fellow guard Chad Vickers (Bronx, N.Y.) added 10 off the bench in the Morrisville efforts.
  • Brandon Kulakowski (Brewerton, N.Y.) added nine to go along with a team high eight boards, while Mike Green (Bronx, N.Y.) chipped in nine, adding four rebounds to his totals.
  • Morrisville trailed by as many as eight in the opening half before a three-ball by Vickers from the left corner saw the Mustangs put together a 7-0 spurt to make it a one-point contest with six minutes on the clock in the half.
  • Abington regained the multiple possession lead and wrapped up the half with a three-pointer for the seven point advantage at the 3:07 mark, as both teams went cold offensively over the final few minutes before the halftime break.
  • Abington maintained the distance from the Mustangs early on in the second before a layup from Kulakowski, followed by two free throws made it a four point game at the 12:14 mark, but the Nittany Lions mustered a 7-0 spurt to broaden the gap to 11, a distance they maintained for the remainder of the half as they posted the league win.
  • Despite their struggles from the floor, the Mustangs capitalized on Nittany Lions turnovers to outgain Abington 16-4 in points off miscues, also getting 18 points from play off the bench.
