Morrisville women net third straight win, top Potsdam 4-3

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team posted their third straight win Friday afternoon as they handed visiting SUNY Potsdam a 4-3 NEWHL loss on the Mustangs home ice in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville posted their third straight win Friday afternoon as they held on to defeat the visiting SUNY Potsdam Bears by a 4-3 final score on the Mustangs home ice in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville took a 2-0 first period lead in the league contest, netting their first at the 11:57 mark after Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) intercepted the puck and went untouched from the neutral zone in for the chip over the pads of the Bears netminder.
  • Rhys Brown (Kemptville, Ont.) added to the lead with just over a minute to go in the frame, collecting the rebound for the one-timer off the initial shot from Emma Thompson (Ingleside, Ont.).
  • Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill.) also earned an assist on the tally.
  • After two scores by Megan Teachout for the Bears in the second, Morrisville regained the lead with a power play score from freshman Meadow Clarke (Middlesackville, N.S.), her first collegiate goal, within seconds of the restart off the faceoff.
  • Emily Olson (Lloydminster, Alta.) and Brown moved the puck to Clarke who slapped home the go ahead tally 5:54 into the third.
  • Olson added a backhanded flick 13:47 into the period to give the Mustangs the 4-2 lead, as Kendra Johnston (St. Albert, Alta.) and Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) registered assists on the tally.
  • Potsdam added a third score 16 seconds later and in the closing two minutes pulled goalie Ellie Zurfluh for the extra skater, but could not muster the equalizing score as Morrisville earned the NEWHL win.
  • Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) registered 35 saves in the win, including a double-digit 16 in the second period of play, and three more in the final two minutes of action.
  • Zurfluh finished with 33 stops in the loss.

  • Morrisville returns to the ice tomorrow on the road at Oswego, for a 3 p.m. scheduled start.
