Balanced attack leads to sweep of Abington for Morrisville women

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team collected the series sweep over Penn St. Abington Friday night as they had six players net double digits in the 90-72 United East victory in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball had six net double figures Friday night as they completed the series sweep with a 90-72 United East win over visiting Penn St. Abington in Morrisville.
  • Kayla Dykas (Red Hook, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with a 15 point outing, hitting 5-of-7 from behind the arc as she came off the bench in the second half for four three-balls.
  • Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) added 12 points and six rebounds to the Mustang totals, while teammates Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.), Olivia Brunner (East Branch, N.Y.), and Abby VandeWalker (Johnstown, N.Y.) each added 11.
  • Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, N.Y.) added 10, while assisting six and collecting three steals.
  • Walker completed the double-double with 10 rebounds, collecting seven on the offensive glass.
  • Dezia Becker (Endicott, N.Y.) added five assists.
  • The Mustangs had a massive game from the bench, as they poured in a total 49 points, while limiting Abington to five.
  • Across the contest, the hosts hit 44.7% from the floor, including a 62.5% second half effort.
  • Abington closed the Mustang lead to three with 6:54 to go in the third, but back-to-back daggers from Dykas from behind the arc regained a nine-point advantage for the hosts, and pushed the lead to 15 later in the quarter as she added two more to her totals.
  • Dykas' three at the 6:44 mark kicked off an 18-6 run that send the Mustangs into the fourth with a 62-48 lead.
  • Abington closed the gap to 10 early in the fourth, but Morrisville was able to maintain the double-digit advantage, leading by as many as 20 down the stretch to secure the win.

  • Morrisville will host Penn College in the regular season finale tomorrow on the Mustangs home court in a 3 p.m. contest.
