WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's hockey handed host and USCHO ranked no. 7 Oswego State their first SUNYAC loss Friday evening, icing the Lakers for the 3-1 victory in Oswego.
  • Within minutes of the opening faceoff Morrisville forced the Lakers to play from behind, netting back-to-back tallies for an early 2-0 first period lead under five minutes in.
  • Morrisville collected its first goal off the crease cleanup by Jacob Black (Fergus, Ont.) after Benjamin Lindberg (East Aurora, N.Y.) sniped the puck at the Oswego net from the blue line at the 4:34 mark.
  • Will Jones (Corbeil, Ont.) pushed the puck cross ice to Lindberg, collecting the second assist.
  • Oswego won the ensuing faceoff, but Morrisville gained possession in their defensive end and quickly turned the play into a 3-on-1 on the opposite end where Chris Mott (Nesconset, N.Y.) lifted the pick over the glove of Cal Schell for the two goal Mustang lead.
  • Jestin Somero (New Ipswich, N.H.) pushed the puck forward to Curtis Abbott (Belmont, Ont.) on the left wing, who then sent it to the right to a wide-open Mott for the tally.
  • Morrisville headed into the intermission with a two-goal advantage and maintained that lead until the 11:40 mark of the second when Oswego was able to get one on the board with the shot that hit just inside the right lower corner of the post.
  • Morrisville's Ryan Creenan (Colonia, N.J.) kept the Lakers from adding another turning away two while the defense that fronted the net blocked two as well.
  • With both teams battling on the ice throughout the third, Morrisville was caught with too many players on the ice late in the period and gave Oswego a power play opportunity with 2:57 to go.
  • Two shot attempts by the Lakers with the man advantage were blocked by the Mustangs, who once again put up a tough defensive front with Creenan, but it was at the 18:31 mark that Oswego made the move to pull the netminder for the extra skater in an attempt to tie the contest.
  • Morrisville's defensive unit once again moved the puck out of the zone and found Cameron Clark (Daytona Beach, Fla.) on the right wing who, just outside the blue line, rifled the puck at the empty net, hitting the back post for the shorthanded tally and 3-1 visitor lead.
  • Clark's score was his sixth goal of the season.
  • Oswego once again pulled Schell for the extra skater, but Morrisville limited the Lakers in the offensive zone, earning the hard-fought win in league action.
  • Schell finished with 22 stops in the loss, as Oswego dropped to 5-1-0 in SUNYAC play.
  • Creenan picked up the win behind his 21 save performance (.955%).
