Morrisville falls in fourth quarter to Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Host SUNY Brockport scored twice in the fourth quarter to top visiting SUNY Morrisville football Saturday afternoon by a final 17-3 Empire 8 score in Brockport.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville fell to 6-3 overall Saturday as they dropped a 17-3 decision to SUNY Brockport in Brockport.
  • A battle in the midfield, both teams struggled to move the ball offensively, with neither finding the endzone until the fourth quarter of action.
  • Morrisville posted 153 yards total offense to the Golden Eagles 198, 105 in the passing game as Steven Frerichs (Wilson, N.Y.) connected on 11-of-27 passes, throwing four to Joey Chirurgi (Yonkers, N.Y.) for 30 yards.
  • Emmett Wood (Barton, N.Y.) collected 35 net yards in the Mustangs running game on nine carries.
  • Defensively, Evan Salvaggio (Geneseo, N.Y.) led the unit with a career high 14 tackles, nine solo, registering a half tackle for a loss of a yard. Salvaggio also posted a forced fumble in the loss.
  • Anai Brake (Cartaret, N.J.) collected eight tackles on the day, while forcing a Brockport turnover with his interception returned for 33 yards.
  • Brockport took a 3-0 first quarter lead with a 21-yard field goal and held on to that advantage until the 12:32 mark of the third quarter when a 30-yard field goal by Owen Cole (Maspeth, N.Y.) evened the contest at three.
  • Midway through the fourth, Morrisville's defense forced Brockport to punt the ball away, but the ball touched the waiting returner and bounced into the end zone where it was recovered by the hosts for the touchdown score, and 10-3 lead.
  • On the ensuing Mustang drive, Morrisville struggled to move the ball out of their own side of the field, and following a short punt, Brockport took over possession yards away from the red zone, setting up a six yard rushing score five plays later.
  • Morrisville had one last drive attempt to come within one possession, but the downfield attempt was intercepted and the ball returned to the hosts who sealed the win.
