Morrisville men suffer setback to Delhi

DELHI, N.Y. – Junior Shykell Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) scored a season high 30 Tuesday evening to lead SUNY Morrisville men's basketball on the road, but it wasn't enough as the Mustangs suffered a 95-77 setback to the host SUNY Delhi Broncos in Delhi.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Morrisville 77, Delhi 95 (halftime: Delhi 57-35)
  • Location: Floyd Maines Arena, Delhi, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 3-3, Delhi 2-2

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Junior guard Shykell Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) collected a team high 30 points Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough as visiting SUNY Morrisville men's basketball dropped a 95-77 non-league decision to host SUNY Delhi.
  • Brown, who hit 11-of-18 from the floor, including four from beyond the arc, added four rebounds and two assists to his totals, while Morrisville also got 14 points from forward Jordan Coard (Jamaica, N.Y.) who also collected seven boards.
  • Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added nine points to go along with three steals and four assists, while Mike Green (Bronx, N.Y.) added eight points.
  • Morrisville got behind in the first half as the hosts came out firing on all cylinders with a 53.66% shooting effort in the first half.
  • The Mustangs trailed by two four minutes in before the Broncos went on a 12-2 run to open the margin to 12 over the visitors.
  • Morrisville was able to cut the deficit to eight midway through the half, but four-straight from long range, capped off by a slam dunk put Delhi out in front by 20, a lead that led the hosts to a 57-35 advantage at the break.
  • In the second Morrisville was able to battle back and cut the lead to 13, but that's as close as they would get for the remainder of the contest as Delhi continued their hot streak from beyond the arc and used back-to-back three's to increase the lead to 19 with just over two minutes showing on the clock.
  • Delhi nailed 19-of-41 from long range, a 46.3% shooting effort, while finishing 50% across the contest from the floor.
  • Morrisville shot 47.4% overall, but hit just six three's, while collecting a total 32 points in the paint.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville will return to the court for the United East opener on December 2 at Penn St. Abington. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Abington.
