Comeback attempt falls short at Abington

ABINGTON, PA – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team battled back from a 15-point second half deficit in a comeback attempt but fell short Friday night as host Penn St. Abington escaped with a 64-58 United East win on their home court in Abington.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's basketball battled back from a 16-point second half deficit Friday night but was unable to complete the comeback attempt as Abington picked up the 64-58 United East victory on their home court in Abington.
  • Shykell Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 19 points on the night hitting 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, also contributing eight rebounds and two steals to the efforts.
  • Jordan Coard (Jamaica, N.Y.) added 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds for the double-double, while Isiah Walker (Freeport, N.Y.) rounded out the Mustang leaderboard with 10 points and two steals.
  • Morrisville, who trailed by four at the break, found themselves behind by double figures after the Nittany Lions put together a 10-0 run over a span of three minutes early on to jump out in front by 15.
  • Coard broke the scoring drought for the Mustangs with his three-point play in the paint, sparking a Morrisville 11-0 spurt to get back in the contest midway through the second.
  • Morrisville cut the lead to one with 48 ticks to go, but Abington hit a jumper in the paint and followed with a free throw to give the hosts a four-point cushion, earning the win down the stretch with two free throws for the 64-58 victory.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville returns to the court next Friday, hosting Brockport at 6 p.m. before wrapping up the first semester action Monday against Hartwick.
