Morrisville survives late rally by Lancaster Bible to remain unbeaten in league play

Box Score LANCASTER, PA – The SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball remained unbeaten in United East play Saturday as they completed the weekend sweep with a 3-2 match win over host Lancaster Bible at the Horst Athletic Center in Lancaster.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville survived a late rally by host Lancaster Bible College Saturday afternoon, escaping with a 3-2 match win in Lancaster.
  • Morrisville went up 2-0 in the match before the Chargers rallied for a convincing 25-8 third set win to pull the match within one.
  • The Mustangs held the lead in the fourth, but Lancaster again rallied late and forced a fifth and deciding set where Morrisville escaped with a 17-15 victory for the match win.
  • Three registered double digits in swings at the net, including Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) who collected 19 to go along with two aces and 12 digs for the double-double.
  • Brianna Gates (Eagle, Colo.) added 16 kills, recording 15 digs defensively for the Mustangs, while teammate Keelin Baker (Vestal, N.Y.) posted 12 kills to go along with her three blocks.
  • Kada Tillman (Orange Beach, Ala.) served up four aces and collected four blocks at the net, while teammate Siobhan Moore (Leyden, Mass.) added 39 assists.
  • Kayla Sheasby (Hood River, Ore.) had 16 digs to lead the Mustangs defense.
  • After Lancaster pulled the match even at two sets apiece, Morrisville had first serve in the fifth set and jumped out to a three-point lead before the Chargers were able to put a point on the board, but back-to-back kills regained a four-point advantage for the Mustangs early on.
  • With both teams battling back and forth, Lancaster took the 13-11 lead after a hitting error by the Mustangs, but Tillman responded with a kill at the net and served up an ace to follow to pull the set even at 13.
  • Each team went point for point down the stretch with a kill from Huppee pulling it even at 15, before a big stop by Kathryn Dolan (Quincy, Calif.) and Huppee at the net regained the one-point advantage for the Mustangs.
  • Baker put the ball in play on the ensuing serve and Huppee slammed it home to earn the 17-15 set victory for the match win.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will travel to Delhi on Thursday for a non-conference match before heading to Wells Saturday for another weekend of United East play.
