Olson’s 13 Kills Not Enough to Get Mustangs Past Knights

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Kayci Olson (Cortland, N.Y.) paced the Mustang offense with 13 kills, but it was not enough as Morrisville fell in four sets to the SUNY Geneseo Knights at the Nazareth College tournament on Friday night.

  • Final Score: Morrisville 1, Geneseo 3 (14-25, 22-25, 25-19, 21-25)
  • Location: Rochester, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 5-5, Geneseo 4-5 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Mustangs struggled to find their footing in the opening set, picking up only four kills in the 14-25 first set loss.
  • Morrisville turned the corner a bit in the second set, posting 12 kills, but it was not enough as the Knights pushed past the Mustangs by three points to take the second set 25-22.
  • The Mustangs were finally able to turn things around in the third set, defeating Geneseo 25-19.  For the set, Morrisville finished with 15 kills, while only committing 6 attack errors.
  • Unfortunately for the Mustangs, their efforts fell short in the fourth set as they fell 21-25, giving Geneseo the four set win.
  • Kayci Olson (Cortland, N.Y.) paced the offense for Morrisville, picking up 13 kills with just three errors for a .357 hitting percentage.
  • The other Mustang to finish with double digit kills was Brianna Gates (Eagle, Colo.) with 11.
  • Defensively, Anna Salamino (Liverpool, N.Y.) notched 19 digs.
NEXT UP FOR THE MUSTANGS

Morrisville will continue their Nazareth College tournament play tomorrow with tilts against Fredonia and RIT.  Matches are set for 1 and 3 PM respectively.
