Morrisville field hockey drops heartbreaker

Dueber officially becomes all-time saves leader

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville field hockey team dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to host Keystone College Saturday evening, but put up a good fight as junior goalkeeper Morgan Dueber (Owego, N.Y.) turned away 14 to become (officially) the all-time saves leader in program history.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Keystone 1, Morrisville 0
  • Location: Keystone College, Factoryville, Pennsylvania
  • Records: Keystone 4-1, Morrisville 2-3
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host Keystone College scored the lone goal of the contest at the 34:57 mark, as visiting SUNY Morrisville field hockey dropped the heartbreaking 1-0 decision Saturday night in Factoryville.
  • The contest, though, marks a career milestone for junior goalkeeper Morgan Dueber (Owego, N.Y.) who officially took over the top spot with her 14 saves in the contest in the Mustang record books in career stops, with a total 560 across her three-year career.
  • Keystone controlled much of the offensive play and fired 15 at Dueber, while registering a total 16 penalty corner attempts.
  • It was on one of those corner attempts, though, that the Giants were able to sneak one past Dueber for the go ahead 1-0 lead.
  • Victoria Mainero put away the corner insert by Maria Tomada for Keystone.
  • Tomada had a change at the 45:44 mark to make it a two-goal game for the hosts, but Dueber's stop on the penalty stroke attempt kept the Mustangs within striking distance.
  • As with much of the contest, Keystone was able to maintain control offensively keeping the Mustangs from netting the equalizer, to collect the win.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville opens State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play in their next outing of the season, hosting Oswego on Wednesday, Sept. 22 in Morrisville.
