Dicenzo’s hot foot lifts Mustangs over Delhi in season opener

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – It's been 669 days since the SUNY Morrisville women's soccer team has competed. The Mustangs returned to the pitch in dominating fashion on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Broncos of SUNY Delhi 3-0 in their season opener. Tiffany Dicenzo (Rochester, NY) paced Morrisville with two goals on the afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Mustangs notched their first goal of 2021 less the five minutes into the start of the contest. The scoring sequence started with Dicenzo taking a corner kick, striking the ball into the penalty box. Rachel Davis (La Fargeville, NY) gained possession and dished the ball off to Dicenzo who chipped a shot over the goalkeeper's head to find the back of the net.
  • Morrisville maintained most of the possession throughout the remainder of the first half, with the hosts taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.
  • Dicenzo netted her second goal in the 72nd minute of the game. Zoe Costello (Kingston, NY) played a beautiful ball into the penalty box to junior midfielder, Angelina Rinaldi (Huntington Station, NY). Rinaldi flipped the ball to Dicenzo, who ripped a shot, deflecting off a Delhi defender into the net.
  • Ashley Tette (Rochester, NY) notched the final goal for the Mustangs on a penalty kick in the 89th minute of play.
  • The Mustangs outshot SUNY Delhi 15-8 in the contest, and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Meaghan Miller (West Ironndequoit, NY) earned the win for Morrisville, recording six saves in all 90 minutes in goal for the Mustangs.
