Morrisville women hold on for win over Route 20 Rival, Cazenovia

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville withstood a second half rally by visiting Cazenovia College Friday afternoon, collecting a 14-11 non-conference win on Drake Field in Morrisville behind scores from five different Mustangs.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville raced out to a 13-3 lead at the half Friday afternoon over visiting Cazenovia College, and withstood a second half Wildcat rally, as they collected a 14-11 non-conference win on Drake Field.
  • Morrisville had three net four scores apiece, including Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) who added two assists for a team high six points. McDonald also led the Mustang efforts in the center draw, winning seven while collecting an additional three ground balls.
  • Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) also recorded a four-goal game, adding an assist for five points, while teammate Aria Treadway (Rome, N.Y.) posted four tallies as well. Treadway created havoc in the midfield for the Wildcats, causing five turnovers while snagging two ground ball pickups.
  • Makenzi Santini (Fairport, N.Y.) scored once and added an assist, while Lauren McGreal (Pawling, N.Y.) rounded out goal scoring with one.
  • Jaele Naab (Buffalo, N.Y.) registered two assists.
  • Laura Lorraine (Hamilton, N.Y.) posted the win in net, making two stops in the first half of play. Kadi Denney (Lorraine, N.Y.) added another seven saves in the second half.
  • Morrisville held the 30-27 edge in shots on the day and posted the 16-10 advantage in draw control wins over Cazenovia.
  • The Mustangs posted the first three tallies of the opening half, two from Treadway and one off the stick of Baum, before Cazenovia was able to get on the board with a tally of their own.
  • However, that momentum was short-lived as Morrisville rifled off eight straight for a commanding 11-1 advantage over a span of 20 minutes, three from McDonald.
  • Cazenovia posted back-to-back scores in an attempt to rally late in the half, but Morrisville collected two more, on scores from McGreal and Treadway to claim the 13-3 advantage at the break.
  • The Wildcats clawed their way back into the contest, cutting the deficit to four with six minutes to go, as they outgunned the Mustangs with six straight goals to make it a 13-9 ball game.
  • McDonald broke the scoring drought for Morrisville with 4:40 remaining on the clock, giving the hosts the five-goal cushion.
  • Cazenovia would add two final scores to trim the host lead down to three, but the clock worked in favor of Morrisville who posted the 14-11 win.
