LaPlace snags career high in Potsdam loss

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse goalkeeper Dylan LaPlace (Chester, Conn.) snagged a career high 24 saves Wednesday evening as the hosts fell to visiting SUNY Potsdam by a 16-5 final tally in Morrisville.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Morrisville 5, Potsdam 16 (halftime – Potsdam 8-4)
  • Location: Drake Field, Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 1-1, Potsdam 1-2
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Potsdam picked up their first win of the season but not without a fierce effort from freshman goalkeeper Dylan LaPlace (Chester, Conn.) who turned away 24 in the loss for the Mustangs.
  • LaPlace's save total was a career high for the Mustang, who also added a ground ball in the efforts on the day. Fourteen of his total efforts came in the opening half of action.
  • Morrisville opened all scoring on the day with an unassisted tally from Evan Kistner (Fulton, N.Y.) 1:17 into the contest, but Potsdam responded with two straight over the ensuing two minutes of action to claim a 2-1 lead.
  • Chris Picciott (Brewerton, N.Y.) and Roman Reiss (LaFayette, N.Y.) each posted tallies to regain the edge for the hosts, both assisted by Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.), but the visitors closed out the opening frame with three straight scores for the 5-3 advantage after one.
  • The Bears opened the lead to four goals early on in the second before the Mustangs were able to put one on the board, a tally from Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.) off the dish from Patriarco, his third assist of the contest.
  • A second score from the Bears Alex Burley with nine ticks to go in the half extended the advantage for Potsdam to four, an 8-4 lead at the break.
  • Potsdam broke open the contest in the third with three tallies before Reiss netted his second of the contest off the feed from Nestor, but it was all Potsdam in the fourth as they sealed the 16-5 non-conference win with five goals, holding the Mustangs scoreless.
  • Potsdam held the 40-19 advantage in shots on goal on the day and forced 25 Mustang miscues.
  • Morrisville hung tight in the ground ball battle, though, as defenseman Kyle Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) led the efforts with five pickups, also causing three Potsdam turnovers.
