Morrisville men net 10-2 NEAC win over Penn College

Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team picked up a 10-2 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win Saturday afternoon, as they handed host Penn College a league opening loss on their home field in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse put together a team effort Saturday afternoon as they had five collect scores on the day, including freshman Roman Reiss (LaFayette, N.Y.) who paved the way with a five point performance in a 10-2 conference opening win over host Penn College.
  • Reiss notched four goals and added an assist, three of his tallies coming in the second half of action.
  • Chris Picciott (Brewerton, N.Y.) and Geoffrey Field (Glen Cove, N.Y.) added two goals apiece, while Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.) notched one of his own to go along with a game high three assists.
  • Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.) recorded a goal as well, the eventual game winner just over a minute in, in the second quarter.
  • Dylan LaPlace (Chester, Conn.) picked up his second win of the season with another double-digit save performance, turning away 12 total, four in the final frame.
  • Morrisville outgained the hosts in the ground ball game, 38-35, while outgunning the Wildcats 48-34 in shots.
  • Upperclassmen Paul Tocci (Riverhead, N.Y.) and Zack Mabry (Suffern, N.Y.) combined for a total 11 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers for the Mustangs defense, eight caused alone by the junior Mabry.
  • Soren Bredeson (Eagle, Colo.) added six ground ball pick-ups, winning six at the center x.
  • Reiss opened all scoring for the Mustangs at the 9:26 mark of the first quarter, connecting off the dish from Nestor for a 1-0 lead.
  • Picciott added a second tally for Morrisville with 4:49 to go in the first frame, before two tallies early on in the second opened the game to a 4-0 advantage.
  • Patriarco notched the third score off a feed from Nestor, and just 12 seconds later, Picciott added his second goal of the day, again from Nestor who received the quick pass off the faceoff win by Bredeson.
  • Penn College was able to get on the board midway through the quarter, but a final tally by the Mustangs with 1:01 to go regained the four goal lead at the half. Field was credited with the score off the dish from Reiss.
  • Penn College scored early in the second to cut the deficit to three, but Morrisville went on an offensive spurt and outgained the hosts 5-0 over the remaider of the half to claim the league win.
  • Reiss notched the lone goal of the third for the Mustangs before exploding for two more in the fourth.

  • Morrisville returns to the field next Friday, traveling to Wells College for a league contest at 6:30 p.m.
