MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team took the field for competition for the first time in 700 days on Tuesday afternoon. The Mustangs dropped both games to the visiting Wildcats, 10-0 in the opening game, and later falling 10-1 in the second game of the doubleheader.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Cazenovia came out with their bats swinging, taking an early lead scoring two runs on two hits in the top of the first inning.
- Junior, Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, Ontario) recorded the Mustangs lone hit of the inning in the top of the first, but the hosts were unable to capitalize with their next two batters, both striking out swinging, leaving Kennedy on base.
- Morrisville was unable to match the Wildcats four unanswered runs in the top of the second, as the visitors took a 6-0 lead heading into the third.
- Jade Shimer (Canastota, NY) led off for the Mustangs in the bottom of the third, singling to center field. However, neither team scored a run throughout the inning.
- Cazenovia continued their momentum into the fourth inning, scoring four additional runs on two hits to ultimately earn the victory in game one.
- The Wildcats took an early 3-0 lead in the second of the day's action. The Mustangs responded posting one run on two hits in the bottom of the first. Freshman, Jessica Burlew (Hopatcong, NJ) got the bats going with a single to left field, later stealing second on the ensuing play. Kennedy registered her second hit on the day, singling to left field while Burlew made her way to third. Burlew would later score on a wild pitch giving Cazenovia a slim 3-1 lead heading into the second.
- The visitors scored seven unanswered runs, including two three-run innings in both the top of the second and the top of the third, eventually taking a 10-1 lead heading in to the bottom of the fifth.
- Morrisville recorded two hits in the final inning, with singles coming from Makayla Lawrence (Webster, NY) and Hannah Godfrey (Southgate, MI). With two outs, Shimer stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded, ripping a line drive down the right baseline, which ultimately was called foul. On the ensuing pitch, she struck out swinging as the Wildcats walked away with the win.
- Godfrey led Morrisville in game two with three hits, while freshman, Mackenzie Braun (Toms River, NJ) suffered the loss for the Mustangs, pitching 3.0 innings and striking out two.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Mustangs are scheduled to host Utica College Thursday in a double header, pending field conditions. Games are slated to start at 3:30pm and 5:30pm.
