WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville men's basketball had four net double figures Friday night in the season's United East opener but couldn't overcome a second half charge by host Lancaster Bible College as they dropped the league season debut 96-83.
  • Brison Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 22 points, collecting a double-double with 12 rebounds, while adding three steals and a block to his totals.
  • The junior shot 8-for-12 from the floor, including a 2-for-3 performance from beyond the arc to lead the efforts.
  • Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 18 points, hitting 11-for-11 from the free throw line, while contributing two steals and two assists.
  • Fourteen of Smith's points came in the second half of action, including all free throws on the night.
  • Jon Brennan (Irvington, N.Y.) and Bryce Arroyo (Bronx, N.Y.) each contributed 11 points.
  • Lancaster opened the contest with back-to-back three's and the Mustangs found themselves trailing by as many as nine early on, but a three from Arroyo sparked a 10-3 spurt for the visitors to make it a two-point game midway through the opening half.
  • Lancaster again regained a two-possession lead over Morrisville, but Hall attacked the paint then followed with back-to-back strikes from downtown to give the Mustangs a two point lead with three to go in the first half.
  • After a layup by Smith to give Morrisville a three-point advantage, Lancaster sent the game into the halftime break tied at 37 after hitting three from the charity stripe.
  • In the second, Morrisville played within striking distance until a 9-2 burst by the Chargers found the visitors trailing by double digits late in the contest, a deficit they struggled to overcome as they fell in the league opener.

  • Morrisville returns to the court Saturday, facing Penn St. Harrisburg in the second of the weekend's United East lineups. Tip goes up at 1 p.m. in Harrisburg.
