Mustangs rally for 4-3 OT win over Potsdam

Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. – Morrisville rallied back from a two goal and one goal deficit to defeat the SUNY Potsdam Bears 4-3 in overtime of their Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) opener on Friday afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Mustangs fell behind early as the Bears picked up two goals in the 7th minute of play.
  • Potsdam capitalized first on a Morrisville tripping penalty, scoring the first goal of the contest at the 6:14 mark.
  • The home squad extended their lead with an even strength goal at the 6:52 mark.
  • Morrisville responded just over seven minutes later with a power play tally of their own to cut the lead in half.
  • Kate Mabey (Guelph, Ont.) picked up the goal with assists from Gwyneth Pritchard (Saskatoon, Sask.) and Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.).
  • Just under a minute later, the Mustangs knotted the score up at two all with a strike from McDonald, assisted by Pritchard.
  • The score remained tied throughout the second period as the Mustangs relied on their penalty kill units to keep the Bears off the board.
  • Potsdam went up 3-2 just thirty six seconds into the third, as they capitalized on another Morrisville penalty.
  • Morrisville responded once again as Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) notched her first goal of the season at the 4:27 mark.  Senior Sierra Voeller (Penticton, B.C.) was credited with the assist.
  • Tied 3-3, the Bears and Mustangs battled back and forth for the remainder of the third period to force the contest into overtime.
  • The Mustangs put an end to the contest quickly in the new 3 on 3 overtime format as Hailee Easson (Okotoks, Alta.) put away the deflection from Mabey's initial shot to take the 4-3 victory.
  • Elizabeth Timby (Getzville, N.Y.) picked up her second win in net for the Mustangs, recording 29 saves in over 61 minutes of work.
NEXT UP FOR THE MUSTANGS
Morrisville will turn their attention towards their next NEWHL opponent with their first of two contests against the SUNY Canton Roos.  The Mustangs will travel to Canton on Friday, November 12 to face the Roos at 4 PM.  The two teams will then turn around for a 2 PM puck drop on the Mustangs' home ice.
