Meet the Coach: Geoff Moore, Men's Soccer

Geoff Moore, Men's Soccer
Get to know head men's soccer coach, Geoff Moore, in this week's "Meet the Coach" segment!

Why did you become involved in working in/coaching in intercollegiate athletics?

I became involved in coaching because of my deep love and passion for the sport I coach, soccer. Plus I get to wear sweatpants to work, what's better than that?

What is your favorite thing about being a coach/staff member?

My favorite thing about being a coach is having the opportunity to mentor and teach young folks about life and the game of soccer and then be able to sit back and watch them grow and develop academically, socially and athletically over the course of four years.

What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment to date in your career?

My greatest accomplishment of my coaching career to date has to be being a part of three NCAA Final Four teams.

What is your favorite memory with the Mustangs to date?

My favorite memory of my short time here at Morrisville has to be our first win of the 2019 season against Utica College. It was a special day as we dedicated that win to coach Graves as he moved on from the program one win shy of 100 for his career.

Who has been the most influential person in your career?

I would say professionally, the most influential person in my career would be Iain Byrne, men's soccer coach at SUNY Oneonta who I had the privilege of working with for nine seasons. I did so much learning over those nine years and I'm so grateful for having that opportunity.

What is the one item you cannot live without?

So, it's not necessarily an item so much. But since the world has been put on hold due to COVID-19 I have really found out how much I miss people. The face to face conversations, sharing laughs or being there to listen when someone is having a difficult day. The hustle and bustle of the Morrisville campus on a warm spring or fall day. I miss that very much these days and I can't wait till we're able to put this behind us and go back to some normalcy.

If you could, who would you choose to switch places with for a day?

I'd love to switch places with whoever is in charge of area 51. I want to know what's going on over there.

If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Nepal. I've always wanted to hike the Annapurna trail.

What is the best thing about being a coach/athletics staff member?

The best thing about being a coach at Morrisville is I get to work with a group of super nice and incredibly talented people. It really is an unbelievable environment to work in and I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to get paid to do what I love.
