Morrisville men double up Canton in SUNYAC win


MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville men's soccer earned a SUNYAC win Wednesday afternoon on senior day, doubling up visiting SUNY Canton as they collected the 4-2 league victory.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's soccer posted their second straight SUNYAC win Wednesday afternoon as they doubled up visiting SUNY Canton in the 4-2 league victory on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville, who celebrated its senior class prior to kick off, put their first tally on the board at the 16:42 mark as senior El Hadji Gueye (Bronx, N.Y.) one-timed the short cross from the right wing inside the right post for the 1-0 advantage.
  • Pedro Oliveira (Baraga, Portugal) was credited with the assist.
  • Within minutes, the Mustangs extended their lead to two as Dejuan Bailey (Hudson, N.Y.) shot the ball to an open Aaron Chapman (Aberdeen, Scotland) at the top of the box.
  • Chapman flicked the ball off his heel into the upper right corner of the goal for the 2-0 Mustang advantage in the 24th minute.
  • Canton put their first on the board at the 24:00 mark beating senior netminder Maximo Duran (Ossining, N.Y.) with the chip under the cross bar to cut the lead to one.
  • Morrisville, though, regained the two goal advantage at 31:22 as Christ Fopossi Tchuente (Bronx, N.Y.) buried the loose ball inside the right post for the 3-1 Mustang lead.
  • A foul by the Roos just outside the box in the 59th minute resulted in a fourth Mustang score, the second for Fopossi of the afternoon, as he directed the free kick around the Canton wall into the upper right corner for the 4-1 lead.
  • Canton was able to get one back late in the game, netting an unassisted tally, but ran out of time as Morrisville recorded the win.
  • Duran finished with two saves in the win for the Mustangs, before Ronaldo Fatolou (New York, N.Y.) appeared in the second half, preserving the win with one save.

  • Morrisville will finish out the regular season with three straight road games, including a match Saturday at Cortland.
