Morrisville women post second straight, top Potsdam 8-6

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team collected their second straight victory Friday afternoon, as they fired past visiting SUNY Potsdam 8-6 on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville shot past Potsdam Friday afternoon to collect their second straight win early on in the season, registering an 8-6 win as they scored four in each period of action.
  • Potsdam took the first and only lead of the contest 42 seconds in as leader Ashley Burrowes snuck one past Morrisville goalkeeper Kadi Bice (Lorraine, N.Y.) for the 1-0 advantage.
  • Twenty-one seconds later, Grace Hanehan (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) went untouched through the 8-meter, netting the Mustangs first tally of the day, before sophomore Aria Treadway (Rome, N.Y.) rattled off three straight, including two within 50 seconds of Hanehan's initial tally, for the 4-1 host lead.
  • Potsdam made a keeper switch and kept the Mustangs scoreless for the remainder of the half, while cutting the deficit to just one behind another tally from Burrowes and Hannah Stevenson.
  • Alexa Ferrer pulled the game even for the Bears at four early on, but Morrisville's Gina Mohammed (Lagrange, N.Y.) rolled crease after collecting the ground ball and gave the Mustangs the one-goal edge with 20 minutes remaining on the clock.
  • Hanehan extended the lead to two with her free position score at the 18:09 mark, before Potsdam posted two straight to even the contest at six with 16 minutes remaining.
  • Hanehan posted her third of the contest and 10th of the season at 13:23, collecting her second free position tally, before Treadway put the game out of reach with her fourth of the day in the closing seconds as the Mustangs collected the win.
  • Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) finished the contest with two assists, while Makenzi Santini (Fairport, N.Y.) also recorded an assist.
  • Bice posted a second straight win in net, saving 12, eight in the first half of action.
  • Lexi Firkins (Brockport, N.Y.) assisted with the Mustangs defensive efforts, causing three turnovers, while picking up a total five ground balls.
  • Burrowes and Stevenson each finished with two goals to lead the Bears, while Netta Terrance posted the loss, appearing for the final 55:39 of play and registering nine stops.
  • Olivia Woolheater got the nod as the starting keeper, playing the first 4:21 of the contest.
