Morrisville women suffer set back, lose cross town battle to Utica

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Visiting Utica College women's lacrosse scored early and often in an all-around team effort Wednesday afternoon, handing host SUNY Morrisville a 20-8 defeat on Drake Field in Morrisville in non-conference action.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting Utica College women's lacrosse scored 12 first half goals in a Wednesday cross town affair, collecting points early and often, as they recorded a 20-8 win over host Morrisville on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Five different Mustangs contributed to the offensive effort for the hosts, including Gina Mohammed (Lagrange, N.Y.) who collected three.
  • Grace Hanehan (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) added two, with teammates Lexi Firkins (Brockport, N.Y.), Marissa Curtis (Manlius, N.Y.) and Aria Treadway (Rome, N.Y.) each adding one.
  • Firkins led the way for the Mustangs in the center circle, collecting five of the team's total eight draw controls, as Treadway picked up a total four ground balls to pace the hosts.
  • Kadi Bice (Lorraine, N.Y.) recorded the loss, stopping a total six in 34 minutes of play, before being replaced by Laura Lorraine (Hamilton, N.Y.) for the final 26. Lorraine posted four saves.
  • Utica had 11 different players score goals, led by Lexi Scaccia who posted a team high five, while assisting three others for the eight-point outing. She also posted a team best 11 draws and picked up three ground balls.
  • The Pioneers opened the scoring just 56 seconds in, netting the first of two straight tallies before the Mustangs were able to get on the board with an unassisted score from Hanehan.
  • After two additional Utica tallies, Mohammed notched her first to make it a 4-2 ball game, before the Pioneers extended the lead to four with two straight.
  • Hanehan cut the lead to three with the score off the feed from Curtis, before Utica went on a 6-1 run to round out the period, for a 12-4 advantage at the break.
  • Utica went on to double up the Mustangs in the second half, 8-4, to collect the win.

  • Morrisville returns to the field Saturday, traveling to Buffalo State College for a 1 p.m. opening draw.
