MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville jumped on the top ranked team in NCAA Division III early but could not hold the lead, dropping the Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) contest 6-2.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Mackenzie Lombardi (Hamilton, Ont.) got the Mustangs on the board just 18 seconds into the contest with a breakaway goal. Madalyn Box (Troy, Mich.) picked up the lone assist after breaking up a Plattsburgh State pass and chipping the puck up the Lombardi in the neutral zone.
- The Cardinals evened the score at the 13:58 mark in the first.
- With the score knotted at 1 goal apiece, Plattsburgh took a one goal lead with a shorthanded tally at the 1:32 mark in the second.
- The visitors would strike again just under five minutes later with an unassisted strike from Nicole Unsworth.
- However, the Mustangs were able to get back within one at the 15th minute of play in the second when Lombardi hooked up with Morrisville's career leader in points, Maddison Devlin (Campbell River, B.C.). Lombardi and Devlin worked through the neutral zone with back and forth passes before Lombardi hit Devlin with pass in front of the crease for the finishing shot just inside the left post.
- Unfortunately, the momentum swing would be short lived for Morrisville as the Cardinals went on to score three unanswered from the 18:30 mark in the second through the 7:10 mark in the third to capture the 6-2 NEWHL victory.
WHAT'S NEXT
- Morrisville will wrap up their regular season NEWHL slate and season series with Plattsburgh State on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM. Prior to the contest, the Mustangs will celebrate the collegiate careers of their four seniors.
