Smith's career high propels Morrisville to seventh straight win

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore guard Rahmell Smith (Syracuse, N.Y.) came off the bench to lead the visiting SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team behind a career high 30 points Saturday afternoon over host Gallaudet University, propelling the Mustangs to their seventh straight victory in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's basketball extended their season win streak to seven Saturday afternoon as they posted an 81-65 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over host Gallaudet University in Washington.
  • Sophomore guard Rahmell Smith (Syracuse, N.Y.) led all scorers with a career high 30 points, coming off the bench to hit 10-of-15 total shots, including four three's, while adding seven boards and three steals to the Mustangs tallies. Sixteen of his points came in the second half of play.
  • Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) also chipped in double figures, netting 14. Dennis also added seven boards.
  • Jon Brennan (Irvington, N.Y.) added 10 to round out the Mustang leaderboard, as the visitors finished the contest hitting 51.8% from the floor in the team wide contribution.
  • Gallaudet leading scorer, Noah Valencia, collected 25 points while snagging 10 rebounds to lead the hosts on the day.
  • Both teams played back-and-forth through the opening eight minutes of the first half, before the Mustangs went on a 19-5 run to open their slim advantage to a 14-point gap with two minutes to go before the break.
  • Morrisville matched Gallaudet scores for the remainder of the half, and headed into the locker room with a 44-29 advantage after two straight buckets by Tyrin Miller (White Plains, N.Y.).
  • After a second half opening bucket by Dennis, Gallaudet went on a 12-0 run over a five-minute span to cut the deficit to seven, but Morrisville responded with a 12-0 spurt of their own as Smith collected nine of those points to regain a 19-point advantage.
  • The hosts were able to pull within 10 late in the contest, but Morrisville pulled away down the stretch for the league victory.

  • Morrisville returns to their own court for a three-game home skid to round out the regular season, hosting Keuka College on Tuesday in a 5 p.m. tip.
