Morrisville men earn series sweep over Keuka

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville men's basketball used a big second half to collect the series sweep over visiting Keuka College Tuesday night in Morrisville, outgaining the Wolves by a final 87-71 on the Mustangs home court.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball fought back from an early 12-point deficit to visiting Keuka College Tuesday evening, and used a 50-point second half to earn the series sweep over the Wolves as they collected the 87-71 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory.
  • For the second time in as many games, Morrisville's Rahmell Smith (Syracuse, N.Y.) came off the bench to post big numbers for the hosts, netting 22 across the contest, including 15 in the opening half of action.
  • Smith, who also collected six rebounds, registered two assists and two steals to go along with his tallies on the night.
  • Four additional Mustangs posted double digits as well, 19 from senior Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) who posted three steals and seven rebounds, and 15 from fellow senior Tyrin Miller (White Plains, N.Y.) who drained three from beyond the arc.
  • Derek Beames (Otego, N.Y.) registered 12 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double, assisting three others, as Ishmael Chisholm (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) rounded out the leaderboard with 11 points, assisting five.
  • Keuka got off to a fast start and within minutes of the opening tip raced out to a 15-3 advantage over the Mustangs.
  • Smith changed momentum for the hosts with his back-to-back buckets off the bench, kicking off a 9-2 spurt to bring the Mustangs back within five.
  • After cutting the deficit to just one, Morrisville took the lead for the remainder of the half on a layup from Chisholm and extended the margin advantage to seven with two straight buckets by Smith to close out the opening period.
  • Morrisville attacked the paint in the second half and used the rebounding finesse of Beames to extend their lead and collect the win.
  • The Mustangs edged Keuka 30-28 in play in the paint, and outgained the visitors 20-6 in points off turnovers, forcing 18 miscues.
