Ed Raby assumes reigns of Morrisville football
MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville interim Athletic Director Todd Kleinhans announced today the appointment of Ed Raby, Jr. as head coach of the Mustang football program, replacing Curt Fitzpatrick who spent the past seven years at the helm of the program.

He will serve in the head role through the conclusion of the 2020 season. A national search will be conducted following the fall slate.

Raby, who joined the coaching staff in the spring 2017, spent the last three seasons as the Mustangs defensive coordinator, also overseeing special teams and the program's academic efforts.

Under his guidance on the defensive side of the ball, Morrisville ranked third overall in the Empire 8 in interceptions and fourth-down conversions. Come season end, four individuals ranked in the top 10 across the conference in tackles, one top five in sacks, two in the top 10 in passes defended and one in interceptions. Across his three-year tutelage with the Mustangs, seven have earned All-Conference accolades, including leading record holder in tackles, Mike Bodnar (Miller Place, N.Y.).

"I want to thank Dr. David Rogers, Dr. Barry Spriggs, and Todd Kleinhans for entrusting the responsibility of leading the Mustang Football Family to myself," said Raby.

"I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to be mentored by Curt Fitzpatrick for the last three as a coordinator under his leadership. Everyone within our Morrisville community is thankful for what Curt has done to establish a strong foundation of our program.

"I am honored and excited to be the next head football coach at SUNY Morrisville, and I look forward to working with our staff and players as we prepare to have a successful 2020 season."

Raby came to Morrisville from Allegheny College where he served in various roles for three seasons, including three on the defensive side of the ball as the defensive line coach in 2014 and 2016, as well as the linebackers' coach in 2015.

During his time with the Gators as defensive line coach, Raby's squad had a 15 tackle for loss and seven sack increase over a season's time, and had coached All-NCAC honorable mention linebacker Nick Murgo in 2015, who ranked third overall in league play in tackles per game.

Raby, who also saw time as the special teams' coordinator in 2016, coached All-NCAC kick returner Jake Wilson, who broke the single season NCAA record for most return yards.

Prior to his stint with the Gators, Raby served on the coaching staff at Alfred University as the defensive line coach and tight ends coach, also serving as the junior varsity offensive coordinator in 2013. His efforts with the Saxons led to a 10-4 Empire 8 record, three all-conference selections, and a D3football.com All-Region and All-American selection on the defensive line.

Raby earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Alma College where he was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter on the defensive line. He completed his masters of business administration degree from Alfred University in 2014.

A member of the American Football Coaches Association, Raby serves as a member of the AFCA Convention Services Committee.
