Morrisville men stun NEAC leader Cobleskill, claim 74-63 league win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team went on a 15-5 run late in the opening half in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) bout with visiting SUNY Cobleskill to widen the gap and didn't look back as they stunned the league leading Fighting Tigers with a 74-63 win Saturday in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host Morrisville men's basketball rattled off a 15-5 late first period offensive blast Saturday afternoon to increase their lead to 10 at the break and maintained that lead as they defeated visiting SUNY Cobleskill by a 74-63 final score in Morrisville.
  • Senior forward Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) led all scoring with 26 points on the day, adding 14 rebounds for the double-double. Dennis also recorded two blocked shots and two steals.
  • Fellow senior forward Derek Beames (Otego, N.Y.) added 14, nearly missing the double-double as he snared nine boards while assisting one.
  • Ishmael Chisholm (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) rounded out the Mustang leaderboard with his 11-point outing, hitting 6-of-7 from the free throw line, while fellow guard Jon Brennan Irvington, N.Y.) dished out a team high five assists and collected a best three steals, while contributing seven points.
  • Antwan Claxton and James Conteh paced the Fighting Tigers with their combined 48-point effort, Conteh leading the way with 25 on his five from long range.
  • After trailing by 10 at the break, Cobleskill was able to pull within six on a three-ball from Conteh with just over a minute to go, forcing the Mustangs to earn the win from the free throw line.
  • Morrisville closed out the half with five from the charity stripe, collecting the 74-63 win.
  • The Mustangs struggled from the floor shooting 38.3% on the day, but put forth a 78.6% effort from the free throw line.
  • They outgained Cobleskill 39-32 on the glass, and held the 20-18 advantage in play in the paint.

  • Morrisville is on the road at Keuka College next Wednesday, for a scheduled 6 p.m. NEAC tip-off on the Wolves home court.
