Mustangs falter in final day of Utica College Invitational

UTICA, NY – Morrisville State men's soccer dropped an afternoon contest to SUNY New Paltz on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Hawks 2-0 on the second day of the Utica College Invitational. The Mustangs drop to 1-3 on the season, while New Paltz now sits at 3-1 on the year.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Neither team was able to capitalize on the offensive end in the first 45' of action, sending both teams into the locker room scoreless at half. William Lynch (Island Trees, NY) had a scoring opportunity within the first 3' of kickoff, but Hawk's goalkeeper, Declan Costello came up with the save. In the 36' of play, a shot from forward Teo Chavez (Bronx, NY) landed just wide of the frame.
  • In the second half, New Paltz saw goals from Tommy Jelstrom and James Maltes. Jelstrom broke the scoreless tie in the 59' redirecting a corner kick, putting the ball into the right side of the net. Maltes fired an unassisted shot in the 83' giving the Hawks the 2-0 lead.
  • New Paltz dominated the game in shot attempts, posting fourteen total shots, ten in the opening half, and eight of which were on goal. The Hawks also held the advantage in corner kicks, tailing ten in the win, to Morrisville's two.
  • Nathan Young (North Syracuse, NY) took the loss in goal for the Mustangs, posting six saves in all 90' in net for Morrisville State.

  • The Mustangs continue their non-conference slate this Wednesday when they travel to Buffalo, NY to take on Buffalo State at 6:00pm.
