MORRISVILLE, NY – Morrisville State women's soccer earned their first win of the 2019 season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Alfred State 1-0 in their home opener on Drake Field.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

• Both squads saw great offensive action in the first half, but neither team was able to connect with the back of the net, sending the game scoreless heading into halftime. Sophomore forward, Angelina Rindaldi (Huntington Station, NY) chipped a great ball to Shea Franklin (North Norwich, NY) waiting in the box in the 17' minute of play. Franklin rippled the ball past the Pioneer goalkeeper, but was called offside just before taking the shot.
• With just over 12' left to play in the first half, Madison Shoemaker (Caledonia, NY) had her own chance on goal, firing a shot fifteen yards out, just off target to the left of the goal.  
• Rinaldi netted the go-ahead goal in the 52' of play to give the Mustangs the 1-0 lead and the eventual win. Sophomore defender, Kayla Kelly (North Babylon, NY) was credited with the assist on the play.
• Morrisville State outshot the Pioneers 12-6 for the match, and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.
• Freshman goalkeeper, Meaghan Miller (West Irondequoit, NY) earned her first win of the season, recording three saves in goal for the Mustangs.

• Morrisville State takes a few days off before hosting St. John Fisher College on Wednesday on Drake Field. The game is slated to start at 7:00pm.
