Early goal lifts St. John Fisher over Mustang State women

MORRISVILLE, NY – The Morrisville State women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaker at Drake Field to St. John Fisher College on Wednesday night in non-conference action. The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead early in the first half and the Mustangs were unable to answer. With the loss, the Mustangs drop to 1-3 on the season.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The Cardinals controlled the pace most of the first half, tailing fourteen shots in the opening 45' of play.
  • Sophomore forward, Carli Kovarik put St. John Fisher on the board in the 34' of the first half, finding the back of the net as the ball whizzed by Mustang goalkeeper, Meaghan Miller (West Irondequoit, NY).
  • Morrisville State had several chances to tie the game late in the second half, but fell short. In the 79' of play, Jessica McGee (Lebanon, CT) broke free down the right sideline and crossed the ball right into the box, but the Mustang offense was unable to connect before the ball was cleared. The hosts missed an opportunity with less than three minutes remaining, taking their first and only corner kick of the game, but were unable to find the back of the net.
  • St. John Fisher finished with 27 shots in the game, ten of which we're on goal, and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Miller posted a season high, 11 saves in goal for the Mustangs.

  • Morrisville State is back on the road this weekend, opening up North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Wells College. The game is slated to start at 3:00pm.
