Volleyball powers past SUNY Poly, 3-0

MARCY, N.Y. – Visiting Morrisville State volleyball added to their win total Saturday, topping host SUNY Polytechnic by a 3-0 match final in Marcy in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action as they hit a powerful .447 from the floor on the day.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville State came out firing on all cylinders in the Saturday morning North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest against cross town rival SUNY Polytechnic, rattling off a .447 hitting percentage across the three set win to improve to 3-0 within the league standings.
  • The Mustangs, who have not lost a conference match dating back to September 2017, got a huge hitting game out of senior outside hitter Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.) who collected 22 kills on her .559 hitting percentage, eight throw downs alone in set two, while adding three aces and six digs to her totals.
  • Junior middle hitter Kirsten Florio (Wellsboro, Pa.) added another 10, hitting .533 at the net, accounting for 12 points. Florio also added two service aces on the day.
  • Amelia Baratier (Liverpool, N.Y.) posted six kills and a .500 hitting percentage, with fellow teammate Brianna Gates (Eagle, Colo.) registering eight kills behind a .417 hitting effort.
  • Morrisville's offensive efforts were aided by freshman setter Siobhan Moore (Leyden, Mass.) who collected 32 assists and five digs, while serving up three aces.
  • Defensively, Morrisville limited the hosts to a .197 match hitting effort, as the Wildcats combined for a match total 23 kills, while the Mustangs doubled up their own for a match total 46.
  • Senior libero Sam Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) recorded 16 digs in the outing, eight coming in the second set.
  • The Mustangs, from the opening whistle dominated the match, claimed the league win in just over an hour's time.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
  • Morrisville will return to the court Wednesday, hosting Keuka College in the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities (STUAC) Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Morrisville.
