Morrisville Tops Keuka in 4 Sets behind Merrill’s Big Night

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustang Women's Volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe, Keuka College on Wednesday night to improve to 4-0 in conference play.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Mustangs started hot, holding the lead throughout the entire first set, hitting over .300 including 14 team kills.
  • The second set was much different despite Morrisville taking the set 25-21, as Keuka capitalized on eight Mustang hitting errors to keep the contest close.
  • Keuka despite only producing 10 kills in the third set, held Morrisville to just nine kills and a .000 hitting percentage in the third to pick up the 25-22 win to cut the Mustangs' set lead in half.
  • The Mustangs were able to regroup in the fourth set, picking up the 25-18 win for the 3-1 match victory.
  • Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.) led the way for the Mustangs putting away 31 kills, while Amelia Baratier (Liverpool, N.Y.) tacked on 10.
  • Defensively, Morrisville received two huge solo blocks from Kirsten Florio (Wellsboro, Pa.) and Jillian Hoffman (Virginia Beach, Va.) to go along with the 11 block assists that the Mustangs produced as a team.
  • Sam Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) once again anchored the defense, posting 24 digs.  Merrill and Baratier did their part as well defensively, completing the kill-dig double-double as they chipped in 14 and 13 digs respectively.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Mustangs will head north this weekend as they compete in the Canton Classic co-hosted by St. Lawrence University and SUNY Canton.  Morrisville will start the tournament at St. Lawrence on Friday night with a 7 PM match against Canton and a 9 PM match against St. Lawrence.
