Late goal lifts Cazenovia over Mustang women

MORRISVILLE, NY – The Morrisville State women's soccer team dropped their first conference contest of the season to the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College on Tuesday evening by a final score of 2-1. The Mustangs fall to 4-4-0 overall while the Wildcats improve to an overall 5-3-0 record; both teams sit at 2-1-0 in NEAC play.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Cazenovia 2, Morrisville 1 – (halftime – Cazenovia, 1-0)
  • Location: Drake Field – Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Cazenovia 5-3-0, 2-1-0 NEAC; Morrisville 4-4-0, 2-1-0 NEAC

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Cazenovia got the action started late in the first half as Dimetria McIntyre netted the Wildcats first goal at the 38:15 mark after receiving a cross from Cassidy Crumblin in the box. The goal is McIntyre's 13th of the season.
  • The visitors took a 1-0 lead into half time, holding an 8-4 advantage in shots and a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
  • The second half proved to be a back and forth battle for both teams until Morrisville State scored the game-tying goal in the 73' of action. First year defender, Tiffany Dicenzo (Rochester, NY) posted her first collegiate goal, tying the game at 1-1 scoring on a free kick just outside the penalty box. Ashley Tette (Rochester, NY) earned the assist on the play.
  • Cazenovia's Cassidy Rattray recorded the game-winning goal with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation. The Mustang defense had trouble controlling the ball and Morrisville State's goalkeeper, Meaghan Miller (West Irondequoit, NY) was pulled deep out the net; Rattray launched the ball over Miller's head to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead, and the eventual win.
  • The Mustangs had several chances in the closing minutes to tie the game, including four corner kicks within the last two minutes of play. Perhaps their best chance came when Kayla Kelly (North Babylon, NY) collected a rebound off of a corner kick, ripping a shot just outside the box, but striking the top post.
  • Miller posted seven saves in the loss for the Mustangs.

WHAT'S NEXT:
  • Morrisville State will resume North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action this weekend, traveling to Keuka College on Saturday afternoon for a 3:00pm contest.
