Men’s Soccer plays to a 1-1 tie with Nazareth

MORRISVILLE, NY – After 110 minutes of action, the Morrisville State men's soccer team was forced to settle for a 1-1 tie on Tuesday night against the visiting Golden Flyers of Nazareth College. The draw is the first of the season for both the Mustangs and Nazareth College.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Nazareth 1, Morrisville 1 – 2OT (halftime – 0-0)
  • Location: Drake Field, Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Nazareth 4-2-1, 0-0 Empire 8; Morrisville St. 2-4-1, 0-1 NEAC

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The first half saw little offensive action as both teams entered halftime scoreless. Mustang goalkeeper, Tyler Card (McGraw, NY) faced six shots in the first half, while Nazareth's goalie, Brian Wilkin only saw one shot in the first 45' of play.
  • The Golden Flyers got on the scoreboard first in the 58' on a penalty kick. After a Mustang foul in the penalty box, Nazareth's Jake Adams delivered to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
  • Newcomer, Elie Chandley (Baldwin, NY) scored the game-tying goal with less than three minutes remaining to send the game into the first overtime period. The goal was Chandley's first of the season.
  • Both Morrisville and Nazareth had chances in the overtime periods. Teo Chavez (Bronx, NY) had a free kick ten yards outside the box, but Wilkin was able get a hand on the ball for a deflection. With less than 10 seconds remaining in the second overtime period, Nazareth crossed a ball into the penalty box to a waiting Jake Adams, who headed the ball straight into Card's hands as the final horn sounded.
  • Nazareth held the advantage in both shots, 16-4 and in corner kicks 9-2 in the draw.
  • Card finished with nine saves in all 110' of action for the Mustangs.
