Field Hockey falls 5-1 to Houghton

MORRISVILLE, NY – Houghton College scored twice in the opening quarter and added a goal in each after, as they topped host Morrisville State field hockey 5-1 in non-league action Saturday evening in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Houghton struck twice in a minutes time in the opening quarter for a quick 2-0 lead over the host Morrisville State Mustangs, and added one in each quarter after, topping the hosts by a 5-1 final score Saturday.
  • A lift into the left corner of the cage by Sydney Jameson gave Houghton the 1-0 lead at the 9:33 mark, before Leanne Plunkett put another away off the cross from Hannah Daniels.
  • Morrisville State responded with their lone score of the night in the second quarter, as Grace Hanehan (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) crossed the ball to Heather Cummings (Akron, N.Y.) for the scoring tip on the right corner.
  • A penalty stroke as time expired sent Houghton into the locker room with a 3-1 lead.
  • Jameson added her second of the day at the 44:42 mark, before Caitlin Jennings put home the long drive in the 52nd minute to seal the win.
  • Morgan Phillips (Morrisville, N.Y.) collected a defensive save in the efforts for the Mustangs, while Morgan Dueber (Owego, N.Y.) posted eight stops in 60 minutes of action.
