WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Despite matching each other nearly shot for shot in the first period, it was the Mustangs who broke through with two goals in the first.
- Christian Vella (Rochester, N.Y.) put Morrisville on the board at 6:04 in the first, off of an assist from Ryan Bochert (Denver, Colo.).
- Just over five minutes later, Rich Hart (Liverpool, N.Y.) found the back of the net during a rare 4v4 situation to put the Mustangs up 2-0 at the 11:32 mark. Bochert picked up his second assist of the day on the play.
- Up 2-0, Morrisville wasted little time in the second to give themselves a three-goal cushion. Jestin Somero notched his fourth goal of the season at 1:21 in the second off of assists from Eric Melso (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Austin Johnson (Pawling, N.Y.).
- In a penalty riddled affair, SNHU was able to capitalize on a power play opportunity at the 14:14 mark in the second to cut the Morrisville lead to just two goals.
- Morrisville held the Penmen at bay for the remainder of the second period and for all of the third.
- SNHU pulled their goal tender with 45 seconds remaining in the contest to try to get one more offensive push, but Ben Sprague (Norfolk, N.Y.) shut that down quickly, posting the empty net goal at 19:26 to give Morrisville the 4-1 victory.
- Jared Young (Pueblo West, Colo.) picked up the win in net for the Mustangs, recording 35 saves.
