Morrisville men fall short in back-and-forth battle

Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – Visiting Morrisville men's basketball found themselves on the short end of the back-and-forth battle Saturday afternoon against Medaille College, dropping a 79-77 decision in the consolation round of the Buffalo State Cole Classic in Buffalo.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting Morrisville men's basketball found themselves short two points come final whistle Saturday afternoon, as Medaille College was able to squeak out the 77-79 victory in the consolation round of the Buffalo State Cole Classic.
  • Senior forward Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) led the efforts with 26 points, adding 14 rebounds to his totals, while fellow senior Justin Mitchell (Newburgh, N.Y.) collected 13 points, dishing out four assists.
  • Dennis' efforts throughout the tournament landed him a spot on the All-Tournament Team, as announced by Buffalo State.
  • Morrisville doubled up the Mavericks on the offensive glass, collecting 16 to the hosts eight offensive rebounds, holding the 41-31 advantage altogether on the contest.
  • Kirk Hawkins led Medaille with 19 points, with Brock Kroening adding another 10.
  • In a game that saw a total 17 lead changes throughout the 40 minutes, Medaille held a 44-38 advantage at the break and maintained a few possession distance until back to back buckets by Dennis in the paint brought the Mustangs within four early on in the second.
  • Both teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the half until Medaille took the final lead with 12 seconds showing on the clock with two free throw conversions from Travis Sanders.
  • Morrisville had one final shot in an attempt to even the contest and force the overtime period, but the attempt fell short and Medaille escaped with the 79-77 non-league victory.

  • Morrisville will return to the court Friday in the opening round of the Manhattanville Tournament against Trinity College (DC) at 6 p.m.
