Mustangs Serve Their Way to Dominant Win over SUNY Canton

CANTON, N.Y. – The Mustangs picked up a dominant 3-0 over SUNY Canton in their first match of the Canton Classic at St. Lawrence University on Friday night.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Morrisville set the tone early as Amelia Baratier (Liverpool, N.Y.) put the Mustangs on the board first with a service ace.
  • Despite the early advantage, the Roos matched the Mustangs point for point early on in the first set.
  • However, the strong serve of Morrisville allowed the Mustangs to pull away as they picked up five more aces in the set.
  • After defeating SUNY Canton 25-17 in the first set, the Mustangs turned it up a notch in the second and third sets, as they took both sets in commanding fashion 25-10 and 25-9 respectively.
  • Kirsten Florio (Wellsboro, Pa.) led the way for the Mustangs offensively, turning in 14 kills on just 17 attempts and zero attack errors.
  • Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.) followed Florio closely, picking up 12 kills while only committing two errors.  In fact, the Mustangs committed only six attack errors as a team in the entire match for a .453 hitting percentage.
  • Hannah Taylor (Goshen, N.Y.), who picked up two of the six first-set aces also orchestrated the offense, collecting 33 assists.
  • Defensively, Sam Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) tallied 17 digs while Merrill added 10.

  • The Mustangs will face off against St. Lawrence at 9 PM before wrapping up the Canton Classic against Hartwick College at 1 PM on Saturday afternoon at SUNY Canton.
