Mustangs Drop Sixteen Aces in Senior Night Win over SUNY Cobleskill

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Volleyball sent their three seniors out with a Senior Night win over SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday night to cap off their second straight undefeated North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) regular season.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Morrisville 3, SUNY Cobleskill 0
  • Location: Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville (19-6, 11-0 NEAC), SUNY Cobleskill (12-14, 2-9 NEAC)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Mustangs struggled to get started in the first set falling behind 8-5, but a strong serve streak from junior defensive specialist, Anna Salamino (Liverpool, N.Y.) brought the home squad back to life serving four straight points.
  • Despite push back from the Fighting Tigers, the Mustangs weathered the first set storm to take the first set 25-21.
  • Kirsten Florio (Wellsboro, Pa.) sparked the Mustangs in the second set as she served the Mustangs to an early 9-2 lead behind four straight aces.
  • Senior Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.) served a solid streak of her own a side out later allowing Morrisville to extend their lead to 15-3.
  • SUNY Cobleskill crept back into the match, stalling the Mustangs at 20 points, but a Morrisville timeout corrected the ship as they went on to win the second set 25-18.
  • The Mustangs turned things up a notch in the third set producing more aces, but also came up big offensively hitting over .600 as a team in the final set.
  • Fittingly, the Mustangs wrapped up the 25-8 third set win on an ace from senior, Amelia Baratier (Liverpool, N.Y.) to take the 3-0 match victory.
  • Merrill led the way offensively with 16 kills.  Baratier added 11 kills and also tallied 11 digs to cap off the double-double.
  • Senior libero, Sam Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) picked up eight digs to go along with two aces.

  • The Mustangs hit the road this weekend for one last non-conference tournament at Skidmore College.  Morrisville will take on the Potsdam Bears at 6 PM on Friday before taking on SUNY New Paltz and Plattsburgh State on Saturday.
