Prior leads Morrisville State men to 81-67 win over Route 20 rival Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. –

Senior guard Jordan Prior (Cortland, N.Y.) hit 7-of-9 shots from the floor and was perfect from the free throw line, registering 21 points, to lead the visiting Morrisville State College men's basketball team to a 81-67 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) decision over Route 20 Rival Cazenovia College Wednesday night in Cazenovia.

The win lifts the Mustangs to 8-6 overall, 5-3 in conference action, while Cazenovia drops to 4-10 overall, 2-6 in NEAC play.

Prior drained 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and was 5-for-5 from the charity stripe, as four additional teammates posted double figures in the win, including Jailaan Kinsey (Syracuse, N.Y.) who added 14 points, two assists and a steal.

Sherard King (Bronx, N.Y.) came off the bench to tally a collegiate high 13 points, hitting 4-of-5 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Brandon Hanks (Syracuse. N.Y.) rounded out the leaders with 12 points, hitting 8-of-10 from the free throw line, while assisting three.

Tom Wilk (Cortland, N.Y.) posted a collegiate high six blocks on the night, adding eight rebounds to his tallies, as Morrisville State controlled the glass, out rebounding the hosts 38 to 27.

Ryan Gavin led Cazenovia's efforts, registering 14 points and adding 10 rebounds in the loss, while three additional teammates reached double digits.

Morrisville State held a slim two –point advantage over the hosts with just under six minutes to play, until putting together a 14-4 run over a three minute span to increase the lead to 11 with just over three minutes to go in the half.

Cazenovia cut it to seven with 1:47 to go in the opening frame, but the Mustangs closed out the half scoring the final seven points, taking the 45-31 lead into the break.

Morrisville State took advantage of a cold Wildcat offensive unit and opened with a 15-3 run over the first seven minutes of the half to build up a 26 point lead that increased to as many as 32 midway through the period behind three straight tre's from Prior and Anthony Javier (Bronx, N.Y.).

Cazenovia took advantage of several Mustang miscues down the stretch to claw their way back into the contest, but ran out of time as Morrisville State collected the conference win.

The Mustangs shot 50% from the floor on the night, and hit 9-of-17 from long range (52.9%), while the hosts hit 39.7% from the floor and drained 10-of-21 from beyond the arc.

Morrisville State will return to the court Saturday, looking to avenge an early season loss to Keuka College.
